The sweet delicious orange eaten all around the world was born a sour fruit, growing wild in China. Dating back thousands of years, the orange was probably being cultivated by the Chinese by 2500 BC. Oranges do not have to be orange to be ripe! In the tropics, fully ripened oranges can be green. The peel of oranges is very healthy, but if you want to eat the peel, chose organic.

Some interesting facts about oranges:

  • There are over 600 varieties of oranges
  • Organic oranges do not contain synthetic (petroleum based) wax coatings
  • Organically-grown oranges have up to 35% more vitamin c than those grown in the conventional way
  • Dating back thousands of years, the orange was probably being cultivated by the Chinese by 2500 BC.

It can be used as a natural medicine for lowering blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. It can be used for your home gardens to keep the slug away.
  • 88% of orange consists of vitamin C, the rest provides other vitamins and minerals.
  • In some languages, such as Greek and Latin, oranges were referred to as ‘golden apples’.
